Experiencing God in the World Today

Experiencing God in the World Today

“Greetings earthling. So how can I help you encounter God?”

That's like a simple enough introduction to my mission. How can I help people encounter and interact with God?

But as soon as I start talking to young people I discover we don’t talk the same language. Which God? Experience how? And why does it matter? Why don’t I do something worthwhile and develop your own sense of identity?

I find myself an old man in a modern world. I am out-Googled, out mediaized (new word for being shot down with video, music, podcast, and Meme’s). I’m in the old cliché, out of touch.

I don’t know how a drug can give you the same blessing as God, although the side effects may be different. I am unable to love others in a way acceptable to them. My love is too judgmental.  And when I am opened minded it is to understanding others so that I might communicate to them. So, I fail at true open mindedness because I am not truly being open-minded, just using it for my own purpose.

But why is that bad? Since I am free?

There you have it. In just a few words I have moved away from the goal of helping people encounter God and fallen into a pit of “What in the world is going on.” I don’t know how to get out. I have a life of experiences with God, both in the natural and supernatural, and I am unable to share any of that.

Issues and mindsets rule time, space, and conversation.

What is a redneck mystic to do?

Falling back on my age old (it's really older than the ages but I don’t want to boast) wisdom, I am going to leverage the Lord for insight and wisdom. RE: I’m going to ask God what to do and fully trust that He is wiser than the wisdom of this age.

Having done that (lapse in time not seen in this post). I am ready for step 2

1Co 13:4  Love is patient and kind

I, Rodney A Drury, redneck mystic most excellent, will seek to live among this generation with patience and kindness. I give myself to the care of God and absolve all people from the responsibility of caring for me or seeing my world view. I give myself to kindness (which I know involves a cross and a resurrection) and to the specific discipline of kindness called listening. While desiring to move on to the other twenty something expression of love, I will seek to establish in my life the reality of patience and kindness. And while maintaining a life of love, I am going to cheat. I am going to request divine assistance, invoke eternal powers, and seek the assistance of authorities both eternal and omnipotent.

So, as I struggle to demonstrate to people today the reality of the presence of God, I am going to live out my own truth (sorta, it’s actually not mine in the sense of ownership). In faith and obedience, I’m joining the Lord’s team and enter into the reality of people, not seeking the Lord, finding Him. This is going to be so fun.

How can we fail?
No one expects a win.
A half-win will be seen as a total victory.

Quotes for the adventerous in Christ Jesus.

"When you're about to fail, go ahead and get it over with so that you can start again."

"If you don't need God, you may think that you are Him."

"Sometimes loving people is like changing the catalytic converter on your car."

"Try to end each argument with a bowl of ice cream and "I'm sorry."

"You know that two ears and one mouth saying?"

"Reading Proverbs so that you know how others should live is like having a headache and asking your friends to take an aspirin for you."

"Redneck Mystics make the best friends if you don't have one you should hire one."
