Many of us who grew up in church believe that voting is one of the most important things we can do in America to keep America on track. I personally think that voting is important, but what do you do when you feel like no one represents you view? What do you do in a republic when you have no one to stand in for you?
The way we live is more important than the way we vote. If voting is important how critical is the way we live?
Most of us living in America today have huge areas of our lives where we have surrendered personal responsibility to an organization. We leave feeding the poor, helping our neighbor and sharing the gospel to the organization of the church. We leave moral justice, economic fairness and the wellness of society to local, state and federal government organizations. We yield education to the public or private school. We limit our product selection by what is on the shelves of the stores we frequent.
I firmly believe the way we make our vote count is by making our life count. This is not a call to make every issue a battle ground, but instead to make all of our lives a reflection of Christ Jesus. We do not need to join every movement to have impact. We can change the world by truly living for Christ where we are each day. God has chosen to scatter believers around the world like salt on potato chips. No one living in America should be able to partake of the world without also partaking of the life of Christ through a friend, co-worker or family member.
With this coming election and so much being in the balance for the future of this nation, look into your inner man and see if you can start there to build a foundation that will stand in the days ahead. By the grace of God let each one of us “be the answer” to the needs and issues around us. Don’t be paralyzed by the vastness of those needs. God has a lot of salt in that shaker of His. If each one of us effected just 12 people in our lifetime, this world would be changed.
